Session Summary
Science!
After running for their lives, the adventurers successfully escaped to Wimpington Manor with no sign of pursuit by the Messengers. Having a moment to breath, Quang decided to explore the functions of the magical that would have been handed over the the mayor. Upon stabbing a bunny, the bunny melted. Upon nicking Neil, the dagger did nothing.
Feeling more ambitions, Quang took the party up to the charred remains of Vinland. There, he enticed a hobo (thereby completing his mission) with the promise of food before stabbing him in the chest. The dagger imbued the hobo with supernatural powers, turning him into a raging hulk who the party had to quickly subdue.
Having discovered this much, the party continued north to Candlekeep where they hoped to take advantage of the library's archive of scholarly knowledge and perhaps to find some trace of the boy who was last seen riding in this direction, carrying the fourth of the five daggers discovered by the party.
On the way, the party saved a bunch of villagers from certain death and recruited an Oni Mage to the manor staff.
Detour!
On their way down the narrow road leading from the Coastal Way to ocean bluffs upon which Candlekeep is build, the party sensed danger emanating from the small farming plantation of Embergale. Sure enough, ogres, commanded by a great blue Oni, were sacking the settlement. Charging, in the adventurers saved most of the villagers and convinced the Oni to surrender, offering him a position at Wimpington Manor as Captain of the Guard.
Returning to the road, the adventurers soon arrived at the gates of Candlekeep itself. Speaking with Seymour Gaildrin, Keeper of the Portal, the party discovered that they needed to hand over a book or an interesting magical item in order to gain admittance. After rejecting all of the books in the Adventure Mobile, the imp in the ruby, and the recently acquired Cat Tabi, the group finally offered Seymour the dagger itself, which he accepted under the condition that Candlekeep scholars would inform the adventurers of anything that they discovered.
So At This Point, We're Off Script
For the next couple of days, the party ditzed around Candlekeep, during which time they were told many things by the resident schollars:
- Six days ago, a kid brought a dagger to a group of three men who wore the symbol of the Mystery Man on their robes.
- These men had brought ancient tomes concerning creatures and beasts of the Underdark
- Three days ago, the three men fought (or at least it sounded like they fought) and then disappeared.
- The Mystery Man's symbol is similar to one used by a group of wizards in Thay.
- The daggers were crafted by an ancient wizard cabal known only as The Order of the Cathedral.
- The daggers come in three basic levels and have survived the Spellplague with varying degrees of magic intact.
- Rumors place one of these daggers in an ancient temple, deep in the Were Woods
With no better lead to follow, the party set off in search of another dagger.
