Mysteries
From 4th Edition
These are the questions that have been brought up during play. This page is particularly important to DMs, who'll need to answer a few of these eventually.
Disclaimer: Mysteries marked as 'solved' are not guaranteed to actually be solved, only to seem solved at the moment.

Unsolved Mysteries
These are the things we don't know:
- What is Rotten Maggots' game and how was he involved with Lord Wimpington?
Brand New Day Mysteries
These are mysteries that were introduced with an intended solution in mind, so they'll probably be revealed at some point (unless they become deprecated story elements).
- What did happen on the island of Chult?
- What's the deal with that huge white sphere the Calashite special forces were carrying?
- And the similar white sphere that flew over the Bakran Grotto and beamed up the two bird people?
- Why did a thieves' guild in Memnon have the mark of The Thief on posters everywhere?
- What was Githyanki, identical to the one you met up north, doing in charge of the thieves' guild?
- Why did he live on beyond his apparent death, just like Lord Wimpington?
- What's the deal with the white spheres embedded in the head of the assassin team, who were trying to kill Mr. Sol?
Solved Mysteries
These are the things we found out (or at least we think we've found them out):
Q: What is the nature of the Messengers?
A: They're created using the power of a headless giant that you found in a crater in the Calimshan desert. It seems that Henderson inherited one of the beast's fingers and was using it to create the Messengers from the shadow stuff inside the beast. You've since sealed up the source of this power, and do not expect to fight any more headless dudes.
Q: What is Lord Wimpington's 'under the table' business?
A: He was totally selling drugs. He's been growing Beast plants in the Underdark and selling their spores as a new kind of hallucinogen.
Q: What is the Beast's goal?
A: It's collecting pre-Spellplague artifacts so that he can rebuild his body.
Q: Who is the Mystery Man?
A: He's Harry the Henderson. He's been working for The Beast while under the influence of its spores.
Q: What was Lord Wimpington up to while possesed by the dagger?
A: Apparently, making a total ass of himself. According to Mary the Maid, Wimpington became possessed when he stumbled upon the dagger in Henderson's secret collection. He then wandered around, pissing everybody off, until Henderson finally hired you to finish him off and get the dagger back.
Q: What is the nature of the red ruby with the imp in it?
A: It's a nightshade larva
Q: What is the nature of the daggers we've been collecting?
A: They belong to The Order of the Cathedral
Q: Who is the old man who appeared for an instant under the ruined city?
Q: What is the nature of the ancient artifacts that seem to have some sort of arcane knowledge just beyond your understanding?
A: They're pre-Spellplague artifacts that have pieces of The Beast in them.
Deprecated Mysteries
These are the things we'll probably never know (because we fucked up or threw something in a lake or just aren't motivated to find out anymore):
- Details about the The Order of the Cathedral such as:
- Why did Cathedral die out?
- How much of Cathedral's dagger magic survived the Spellplague?
The daggers seem to be pretty unimportant at this point, since the Thief already has most of them, and he's never going to complete his collection with the dagger Thuroban destroyed. If people are still interested in these questions, Thuroban probably knows the answers.
